Subject: Capt Midnight: MetaTV at Kagan Part Deux

In the tradition of reports past, Captain Midnight were the labels under which tradeshow happenings were broadcast.
So I’ll continue that grand tradition and reserve the Hot News Alert label for other hot news.
By the way, if you are new to the company, or just want to relive the glory, I have archived the HNA’s in the marketing outlook public folder.

Back to Kagan, unfortunately the Intellocity guy pretty much kept to himself today, so no more wonderful questions. He is on a panel tomorrow though which should be interesting. Speaking of which, we were a little late to the party for this conference so we couldn’t secure a speaking slot on a panel ahead of time. Fortunately, after some canvasing we have managed to squeeze ourselves into a panel tomorrow and it’s on one that’s much more interesting than the one Intellocity is on. Intellocity is on a panel called “Interactive TV:Making it work, making it play” together with AT&T Broadband, Interactive TV Guide, Microsoft TV, Oracle and Sun. But we are on a panel called “Interactive TV Buffet: Carving up Market Share” with OpenTV, Liberate, PowerTV and ReplayTV. It is going to be quite interesting, not sure how it’s all going to turn out but …. hey I have to have a hook for you to read part III of this trilogy right?

Since it was pretty quiet here at Kagan on day two, I’ll take the liberty of relaying news from the other conference where MetaTV reps Jim Gold and Greg Kaplan were attending. Apparantly, yesterday Josh Bernoff did the opening presentation and proceeded to plug MetaTV (a fabulous company that he just got introduced to last week!)
In fact, he mentioned us a couple of times. Now I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of people using our name in vain (just kidding), next thing you know we’ll get a mention on Survivor.

Back to Kagan and the MetaTV cocktail party. A good turn out, 30 or so people stayed behind to enjoy the crispy shrimp things, little mini beef skewers and some strange battered vegetables. Together with an open bar, all brought to you courtesy of MetaLife … errrr I mean MetaTV. Well things can’t always go our way, one of the other analysts at Kagan introduced us as the sponsors and said MetaLife but then corrected himself. I think he was thinking “insurance against the risk of deploying iTV apps” or that we were some “iTV technology on steroids”.

Some good mingling was had by all during the cocktail hour and it was certainly worth the money that we sponsored. I think we are definitely now “in” with Paul Kagan and his making room for us on a panel tomorrow will hopefully be a harbinger of future Kagan conferences to come.

I’ll let y’all know how the panel goes tomorrow. I’m hoping that the presentation will be a complete disaster and no one will understand a thing said – but enough about Intellocity – fingers crossed for MetaTV.

Capt. Midnight (well not quite this time)
